What's new in the World of Nick? |
I was talking with Frank a little while ago and he brought up a point that I had known for the longest time but never really stopped and considered.
Note this well.
The maximum allowable speed for any paintball marker, as defined by all accepted safety regulations, is 300 f.p.s. That is, 300 feet per second.
Here's a bit of physics conversion for you.
300 feet per second * 60 = 18,000 feet per minute.
18,000 feet per minute * 60 = 1,080,000 feet per hour.
Now, remember that there are 5,280 feet in a mile.
1,080,000 feet per hour / 5,280 = 204.5454545455
miles per hour.
A perfectly chrono'ed marker shooting at exactly 300 fps is going about 204.5 miles per hour. So, you guys who keep getting po'ed whenever I start 'hounding' you about keeping your masks on at all times and always treating your marker as if it were loaded, even when it is quite obviously not loaded, just remember this little fact.
Anything hitting you at 200 miles
per hour will hurt. Anything hitting you at 200 miles per hour in
the eye will kill you. So, in all seriousness, with no 'idiot
of the week' or 'ranting' foolishness that I sometimes do, please consider
this. Especially if you're holding my marker!
