Acceptance Speech: Arles
Return to Winner's Page

I’ve been trying to think of something really clever and witty to say for this acceptance speech, but nothing came to me, so I give you my apologies, because I really don’t have anything more eloquent to say than thank you all so much!

The Order of Things was my first full story, and while when I look over it, there are a few things that make me cringe more than just a little, I think it’ll always be my favourite, simply because it was the first. The general idea for it came from one of the monthly challenges, which mentioned a road trip, but when I started the first chapter, I soon realised that I wouldn’t be able to tell the story in a one-parter. Although I might like to take all the credit, I suppose I have to give a grudging recognition to the DC writers for creating these characters in the first place. Nevertheless, I can’t thank you enough for the Best Joey award, because it was such fun being able to write this story and recreate my own Joey ( as well as the others), putting the gang in new situations, playing the ‘what if’ game, trying to write something which reflects the idea that it doesn’t always matter if you mess up sometimes, as long as you do whatever you can to make things right.

The Order of Things alternates between Pacey’s and Joey’s viewpoint, and I think for the most part, I found it easier to write for Joey. I’m not sure why that was because Pacey was always my favourite on the show (for various reasons, but there’s no need to go into that here) but somehow during my writing of the story, I grew to sympathise with her character more, and I hope that anyone who read the story was able to understand and sympathise with her too. Although I know that at times, she was annoyingly obstinate!

As this is meant to be a short speech, I’ll go now, but not before I tell you that with all the feedback and nice things you’ve said about The Order of Things, you may just have created a monster! Which is why I’m back with a new story, ‘One After the Other’, currently in progress. After that one’s finished, who knows...all that I can say now is one final thank you to everyone who read my story, or left feedback or nominated me.

PS: Special thanks goes out to all of the amazing DC fan fic writers out there; if it hadn’t have been for their remarkable work, I probably wouldn’t have started writing in the first place.
