A Few Cards Shy, You Snooze You Luge
Gunshow Records 2002
By James Eddy (again)

Let's not beat around the bush here: A Few Cards Shy is not the best rock band ever. They probably are not on anyone top ten list. Nothing the band has released is a must have for anyone collection.

But all that aside, they still kick ass. With the bands sophomore album, "The Cards" explore their rocky roots a bit more safely than on their genre-hopping, schizophrenic debut, Rock and Roll Baptism, which is a welcome change. While R&RB had some great songs on it, the quality of the tunes that infest You Snooze You Luge is, simply put, better. Though there is no definitive track that stands out as the real "best song," is that such a bad thing? From the first, kinetic track "We Will Outlive You" to the swagger of "Daddy's Little Saint" to the unexpected country outing "Good Lookin," what the boys from Austin, Tejas give on this album is a well-rounded explosion of rock sound. And it's fast, and it's ballsy, and it's fun. Anyone who says different is wrong. Period. This…album…kicks…ass.
