Music Reviews
Interview with Hidden Plain Views - CHRIS AMATO After careful consideration, I have come to a very startling realization: everyone in New Jersey is either in a band or the mafia. So much good music is coming out of the state that I feel compelled to move there. Then I remember the mafia. Perhaps the mafia should put together a New Jersey band…hmmm. So anyway, all mobs behind, Chris Amato, (a band member, not a mob member,) sat down with True Madness and gave us a talking. We laughed, we cried, we got naked, and after it all, it just seemed too weird and we decided to just stay "friends." Jerk. TMM: How long have y'all been together? Chris: We actually have been around for about 2 years... we had a different drummer when we started though. We got the new drummer about 10 months ago so we consider that the beginning of the band we are now. 10 months. TMM: Who came up with the name, and does it have some special back-story? Chris: Our singer was working at a supermarket back in the day. Some old lady asked where the cream of wheat was. It was right in front of her and she said, "Damn it was right there, hidden in plain view". We decided to use the name because we like old people. No other reason then that. TMM: How old is everyone? Chris: we range anywhere from 20-67. 68 in Sept TMM: Do you support acts of idiocy? Chris: Yes, we fully indulge in that! Our guitarist, the moron he is, tried to jump 10 stairs on a skate board on the first day of tour. He messed up his ankle pretty back and had to play on 1 leg most of the tour. He has a mental condition. TMM: Interesting tale. Who is the biggest dork in the band? Chris: I'd have to say…Joe, our singer. Don't ask why. He is. TMM: Do you mind being labeled an emo-band? Chris: I don't mind anymore. At first I didn't understand why bands were getting labeled emo. Where I come from on Long Island, emo bands were heavier/hardcore bands with some punk influence. Like Glassjaw and Silent Majority. The Get Up Kids and NFG and all that to me is just pop with some punk influences. Emo has evolved into some kind of genre for a lot of different bands. That's cool I guess. TMM: Who would you rather see at a HiPV show, some random hot girl, or Darth Vader? Chris: Are you kidding? Darth Vader. He's my dad incase u haven't seen episode 4. TMM: Where do you see the band in say a year, 3 months, and 14 days, 2 hours? Chris: On tour somewhere far away. Where the hoes are cheap and the malt liquor flows freely. TMM: The funny thing is that for me that place is Jersey. Speaking of which, any badass bands out there everyone should check out? Chris:yes there is. Check out My Chemical Romance. They are on eyeball records. I can't stop listening to those kids. Madison is an amazing band. Longfallup, Welcome Home Travis. All amazing. I'd say check out Early November or Senses Fail but they both just signed to drive thru so everyone will know them shortly. The goodwill and the June Spirit are good things to hear. And face first www.facefirstnj.com. We just ended a tour with them. There are probably many more.... but I'm half a retard. TMM: Any last words? Chris: Make sure to go check us out on MP3.com…out. Note: This interview is about a year old, but it still stands a gem of perfected journalism. So ha! |
