History:
Marvin has no formal education and is illiterate. He is also a widdower. Marvin has one son, Clarence, still a slave, but it has been rumored that he was sold somewhere in the Nebraska Territory, probobly Wyoming.  Marvin came out west to look for him.

Marvin cant read or write, but he knows the bible inside and out.  He can quote passages from the holy book verbatim, without havin to know how to read.  He can't read it, but he always carries a bible with him as his most prized possession.

Marvin was a slave in Mobile, Alabama, until his arthritic knee was so bad that he could hardly stand.  His owners cut their losses and let him go free, because he was too old to do them any good anymore.  Marvin's wife, Dee, died as a consequence of being beaten and left in the elements right after their 16th wedding anniversary.  Marvin raised thier son up, from the time that he was 14, all alone.  Clarence was sold to Virginia, and then out west to the frontier to help build homes and railroads.  Marvin has been tracking him since he was freed.  He wants to get his son back.  The boy is now 23, and Marvin hasnt seen him since his 18th birthday.  He refuses to give up.  There has to be a way to find his son.  Marvin has sent inquiries into his son's location, but because of his illiteracy he cant read the responses.

After local Logan DeWinter read the replies, Marvin learned that his son was not very far away at all.  At last!  But will he be there when Marvin arrives?  Only time will tell.
