This page is dedicated to me as a musucian. Four years ago, I started playing the trumpet. I have played in the Freeport High School Marching Band for three. Technically, I rank third in the trumpet section, but positions really don't say much in our band. If they did, we might actually have a band instead of a group of complete morons who all think they are the best thing ever to come to Freeport. The Story of the Dented Trumpet My trumpet was dented a year ago during filming for the morning show. To make a long story short, a certain person did a certain cartwheel and on the way up KICKED my trumpet out of my hand. The whole thing was caught on tape and aired. Well, except the last several seconds of me shouting "God Dammit!" Why I Didn't Get First Chair in the Honor Band I was waiting to audition or the oxymoronic Walton County Honor Band one year when a friend and I decided to switch mouthpieces. The thing is, he played the clarinet. So I walked into the audition room and explained my new instrument to the audition lady as "crumpet." She never cracked a smile. She just said, "You're not serious, are you?" I wanted to say something along the lines of, "Of course. EVERYONE WHO WALKS INTO AN AUDITION WITH A TRUMPET AND A CLARINET MOUTHPIECE IS SERIOUS! OF COURSE I'M NOT 'SERIOUS!'" But I didn't. I just played every piece I was given. She asked me if I had seen the music I was playing before, convinced that I was somehow cheating because everyone who had come in earlier had messed up on the rhythm. I told her no, but I got close to dead last anyway. All because I had a sense of humor, and could read the music better than the people before me... Playing the Clarinet Two years ago, I learned to play the clarinet. It never really went anywhere, and trumpet is still my primary instrument. One day I'll finally get the key fixed on the old clarinet in my closet. Guitar I started learning to play the guitar shortly before school started, around August. It has been the first instrument I have taught myself, and I occasionally try to write songs. I haven't gotten the chance to really improve much on guitar. Right now I'm just sitting at home, playing chords and trying to improve with the lack of any knowledge on how to improve. I've found the guitar to be not only a way to pass time, but a new experience that has opened up a world of opportunity and new challenges. |
