My Sea Year Adventures
Well, the edited ones that is! ;-)
This Is Green Square in Antwerp, and the Cathedral in the background
Train Station in Antwerp
The Cathedral In Antwerp Belgium. Built somwhere in the 1200's I do Believe.
This is a TINY little town that we come to port in France. This is Actually about the entire town of Tankerville. It's a really quaint town at the base of the cliffs along the Seine river about 4 miles up from Le Harve.
This is the Grand Market In Antwerp. These houes were built in the 1500's and the richer the owner, the taller they were and the more gold used in the statues on the top. The building on the left was covered in flags of every nation, beats me what it was though.
Yup, I know, I'm a dork. This is the front gate to the Castle. There were slots for the archers in the towers, a large gate that came from above, and the place where they would trap you between two gates and poor the tar over you, just like it the movies. It was really cool to see
This is the Chateau that was up on the cliffs in Tankerville. Parts of it date back around 1000 years and William the Conqueror stayed here and so did Napolean. This is comming up the path to the main gate..
This is a view of the courtyard inside. I'm actually up on a higher level courtyard and the main one is ahead and down, it was very beautiful but it's hard to see from here. ON the left is the actual Chateau and up on the hill is the remnants of the Old portion of the castle.
This is the Cafe in France. We were all eating sandwhiches with Fresh French bread from the bakery across the street and fresh home made cheese and of course, French beer to go with it.
This is the Normandy Bridge. Comming into France we went by Normandy, this bridge was built as a commerative a few year back.
This is the country side that we saw comming up the Seine River going into France. These are small cliffs, most were much larger.
Here we are comming into the Lock at Antwerpen. This lock is the second largest in the world, the one to the right is the largest in the world. The one on the right can hold about 4 full size ships. That's Adam up on the Bow, I'm standing on the bridge Wing.
These are the SS Cape Avinof, and the SS Cape Alexander. These are part of the Ready Reserve Fleet and were based in Baltimore. We were on these ships for two weeks prior to being on the MV Fidelio. They hadn't been used since the Gulf War and were Built in 1967. Talk about friggen old.
