Span is the outcome of a long 30 years of so of Genetic science. Bulma led the team of scientists who studied and created Span, but died shortly after the fetus Span was born. Trunks (at 14 yr.) then continued the project, working on what he called, "The Ultimate Warrior". Pan's genes were inserted into the fetus a short time before she was killed as well. Wings were grafted on, and Span's Saiyan genes were altered so that she was permanently Super Saiyan. She could reach other levels, but she was always to be ssj. Trunks (now 20 yr.) then speeded up the process of Span's growth until she was about the same size as a girl of ten was. Span was then brought into the world of the under ground (where all the scientists had retreated due to the enemy...) and raised to be ruler, warrior and protecter of the entire world. Trunks went above ground on a conned rescuse attempt and was captured by the enemy, who then forced him to forget all he knew about the world. So Vegeta then raised and trained Span, giving her her cold demeanor and sense of honor. The scientists created other genetic children, but none of the other attempts at creating another
