| Communism has gotten a very bad reputation in Amerika. the seeds of McCarthyism were planted so deeply that we may never be able to get them out. For the uniformed, when faced with the word "communism" their gut reaction is to think of an evil practice that strips people of their rights and freedoms and their image of a communist is either a wild-eyed radical, blindly devoting himself to a foolish cause, or an old man, hiding in a dark, crumbling building, surrounded by his "comrades" and remembering the days when you didn't have to wait for bread. These images were put into the collective subconscious of Amerika by politicians who wanted to make the workers hate and fear communism without knowing what it is, and make students automatically want to avoid being associated with anything so evil as communism. During the red scare people lost their jobs, their families and even their lives if someone even hinted that they might be a communist. People were drvien out of thier homes for their beliefs. Communism is a political sytem that by eliminating the ability of one man to exploit another, allows each individual to grow to his or her full potential and live freely. It is a society where one's worth is not measured by what family one comes from or how much money one makes. Greed is kept in check by laws and the rights of workers are protected. The theory of communsim has nothing to do with restricting freedoms, except the freedom to exploit one's fellow man. Communism is the only radical theory that supports equal rights for all members of society regardless of race, age, gender, or sexuality and supports education. The communists in Russia gave women more freedom than any other country in the world at that time. They could work, go to school, vote, get divorces, and have a separate identity from their husband. They were encouraged to participate in sports, get an education, work, ven join the army, eand were treated as important members of society. Communist governments enstated programs to teach the peasants to read and write: they encouraged education. Nazis, Facists discourage reading and want to make distinct classes of people, limitng the rights of citizens based on the whims of those in power. Communism is unlike any other system and it is NOT like what you have been told. |
