Bio: "TryMe started out as a Joke to Ryan," says lead singer & guitarist Jason. He and former TryMe guitarist and long time friend Ryan Ebling started the band as an accidental joke while at a local venue show. He, Ryan, guitarist turned bassist Jacob Burghuis, and drummer Brad Rettler were the origional line up. TryMe started with Jason singing cover songs and battling with the rest of the band, which included the short-lived stint with guitarist Jon Briehl, about the future of creating something original and new. Mike Sapiro joined, and it looked as though there might actually be a light at the end of the tunnel. Although is was a long road to travel, and there were many bumps along the way, including the loss of both Ryan and Brad, and the addition of Justin, who at the time didn't even no how to play the drums, TryMe became one of the pillars of the south eastern Wisconsin music scene. But what role did Jason play in this? He is often considered TryMe's secret weapon. He gives them a unique sound and a springboard over most bands who, for the most part, lack vocal skill. Jason eventually took over as rhythm gutarist, freeing up a lot of space for Mike, alowing TryMe to have a much more polished and intricate sound. When Brad left the band, Mike who cowrote and wrote most of the music, found a talented and usefull partner in Jason. He has penned numerous TryMe classics, such as Mellow Yellow and I Want To Know, as well as co-written many songs with Mike. He brings a very poppy sensibility that can keep Mike in check with his experimentality. You can hear this unique mixture in TryMe's music now. To close the interview, I asked Jason about his opening statement. His response,". . . is TryMe still a joke? You be the judge. . .I'm kinda impartial." |
