Bio: For more than three years now, Mike has been the solid guitar background of TryMe. His strong rhythm and interesting and complex, not to mention experimental leads have helped to give the music TryMe plays a style that can finally be called their own. Mike started out as a lone songwriter who wandered from band to band. TryMe had been having some difficult beginnings, and already lost their first addition to the origional line up, guitarist Jon Briehl, when Mike offered to "jam" with them (he and Brad Rettler, TryMe's origional drummer, had done some projects previously). On Mike's first day, TryMe broke up. Within a matter of minutes though, the band was back together, and the almost-joke band, actually started to come together. Along with Brad, Mike became the co-songwriter, adding original music to this once-cover band. Mike displayed his talented music and lyric writing from early on, and still carries that talent on to today. After TryMe's rocky start and eventual loss of guitarist Ryan Ebling, not only did the band change, but so did the music. The once "surf punk" band now forged into a new musical forefront due to Mike's constant influx of a combination of the creative and post-cutting edge. After the final shuffeling of members into what we see today, the "TryMe sound" was an actual thing. An odd combination of pop, folk, brit rock, soul, and Mike was an integral part of that coming together. His live performance also add another 110% to the already strong music. People come to shows just to see what Mike will do next. To finally describe Mike in one word would be a literal impossibility in the English language; unless they invent a word meaning creative, dedicated, eclectic, and musical genius. |
