John Dupy, the progenitor of my paternal genealogical line, is first identified as living in Preble county, Ohio in 1840 on the census.  He is found on the 1850 Preble county census and on the 1860, 1870, and 1880 census of Lee county, Iowa.  There is a listing for a John Dupy  on the 1830 census for Shelby county, Kentucky.  However, the validity of  this entry being the same John Dupy as found in Preble county, Ohio is in doubt.
There is a record of a "John Duly" (note the spelling) married to a Mary McGriff on November 25, 1830 in Preble county, Ohio.  According to the age John Dupy gave on the four census records listing his name, he was born around 1809-1811.  He, also, stated he was born in the state of Maine.
Now the mystery of John Dupy's origins gets deeper as there is a listing for a John Dupy as an immigrant on the Baggage Passenger Lists arriving in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1817 from London, England aboard the ship, Emmy.
Finally, I have found a John Dupy who was a Baptist minister of the regular congregation living in Fayette county, Kentucky in the late 1700's.  The birthdate, location, and relationship/connection to the several John Dupy entries I have located is at this point in time still a mystery.  What is accurate and documented is that the John Dupy listed on the 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 census is my great, great grandfather.

Why John and Mary (McGriff) Dupy left Preble county, Ohio and moved to Lee county, Iowa is unknown, but it is a known fact that the second son, Enoch, lived in Lee county, Iowa and the family moved there around 1855.  They remained in Lee county, Iowa until the late 1880's when they moved to Sangamon county, Illinois where two other sons lived, James Hubbard and Jerome E. Dupy.  By profession, John Dupy was a farmer.  He died on November 29, 1893 in Lowder, Sangamon county, Illinois and along with his wife Mary (McGriff) Dupy, who died on May 12, 1890, is buried in the East Waverly Cemetery, Morgan county, Illinois.
