New URL
August 8th, 2002 |
Well, I have decided to move the website to a new location, and have moved it. I will continue to leave NJE up and running at Geocities for a while yet so that any visitors will be able to adjust to the new url more easilly. Additional news after this will go into a new panel over on the left as hyperlinks on the Geocities site so that this "We Have Moved" article will be prominent there.
Also, there might be a few more changes coming to the site soon, such as an "extras" section and improved organizing of products on the products page.
After the course of a few months, the space used for the Geocities website will be used for something else. I'm not completely sure what yet, but there will definately be something there. =] The main page for the Geocities site will also be a kind of portal to NJE and the new site I'm going to have at Geocities, just in case there are still some old links out there in a few months. =]
Here is the new URL: http://jamess13.cjb.net/nje/

New Product, Site Updates
July 19th, 2002 |
I hope everybody has enjoyed their Canada Day / Independance Day / etc.
First of all, I have added a new product to the products page, Wallpaper Rotator. The program is currently labeled as "un-released" because it is a program I made for personal use. However, I will make appropriate changes to the program and will release it to the public if there is a demand for it.
Second, I have corrected a few of the links which were out-of date. But, because this is Geocities, I don't have a nice fancy script to make appropriate changes to all of the pages. Therefore, some of the pages may still be a little out-of date.
Lastly, I am debating on whether or not I should move this site to a different server. I would like to make some use of scripts to make content editing a little easier. Also, ever since Geocities dropped support for remote FTP access, file management has been a bit slower and diffiult. (That and my off-line copy of this site is beginning to be out-dated.)
However, I am not sure exactly how long this website will last anyway. Once the Serial Experiments Productions website is launched and Stone of Reikai released, there will no longer be much purpose for this site. Also, I really like the automatic page stats which Geocities provides. And to top it off, I even think I have a little bit of sentimental attachment to my Geoities account. o.O

Update
June 21st, 2002 |
Okay, so the site is still only in English. I never finished the translations. Maybe I'll get around to finishing them.. sometime..
Anyway, the main purpose of this news update is to inform you that I am still alive, and I am still planning on finishing SoR. Lately I've been busy taking care of personal affairs and studies. There won't be much to report for a while because I'll be completely re-writing the graphics engine for SoR. The old graphics engine wasn't very resource friendly, was slow, and huge. Plus, the old graphics engine was designed for a 320x200 screen resolution. I plan on moving into a 640x480 screen resolution. This also means a complete re-do of all of the menu screens and GUIs. I plan on preserving the same nature and feel of the old GUIs, but with more ease of use.

NJE Soon to be Trilingual.. and Web Rating
May 4th, 2002 |
Whoa, this is the first time I think I've added a news article only minutes after another. =P Anyway, I will begin translating the NJE website into other languages very soon. (Possibly later today.) When finished, the site will be available in three languages: English, Japanese, and Spanish. I will also translate all previous news articles into these languages. Usually I would expect the Japanese version to be completed first; however due to temporary contact with someboy who speaks Spanish, the Spanish translation may come before the Japanese translation.
Also, I will be adding content ratings to this site today. =]

Not much going on..
May 4th, 2002 |
Recall in the last update that I said I "might" release some info on Project Beta. Well, I didn't, because I felt it is still not the right time to release info about that. =] Also, there has been very little progress at all; not because I don't want to or anything, but rather I just have been busy with other things which are more important. (Most of these more important things are, sadly, things I do not want to do..) When things will start moving along again I do not know. =[

News Archives Opened
March 29th, 2002 |
As I promised on March 9th, there is now a News Archives section. The archives contains every news article (which I could find) since Neo-Jaguar started.
I might release some information regarding the "Project Beta" which is seen up above soon, so check back in a few weeks. ;]

Stone of Reikai Progress
March 9th, 2002 |
The Stone of Reikai was announced over a year ago, and absolutely no progress has been made during the past half year. Why? Because The Stone of Reikai is still on my old Hard Drive, and I still have not been able to retrieve it. (Because of my computer, I need a second computer to do this. The second computer is the only thing stopping me.) With my luck, everything on the old HD has probably gone bad by now anyway. So, I have only two options left. The first option is to cancel the Stone of Reikai alltogether. After all the paperwork I have done on this thing, and the storyline I created for it, I don't think I am going to cancel it.
The second option I have, is to completely re-program it from scratch. ALL of it. All I have to work with is about 10 screenshots, an older portion of the programming code which is half-Jamagic and half-Java, and a couple of the external files. It is definately not enough for me to continue from that. It would take more work to try to re-create most of the graphics and try to conform with what I already had rather than to completely re-do everything. It would be nearly impossible to try to convert the Java parts of my hybrid code back into Jamagic, because I haven't worked with the code in months, and it most likely will not do what I had originally wanted it to do.
I think it would just be best if I completely re-did the whole game, keeping only the paperwork I had done on it. (I definately want to keep the storyline.) This means that the estimated date for a working Beta is once again to far to be predicted. I would guess perhaps 6 months from now, but you should also keep in ming that I am horrible at estimation. =P
In other news, I will be adding a news archive to this site in the near future, despite the fact that NJE "doesn't exist" anymore.. =P I think I will just keep this site to present games which I have been involved with. I will probably add a Serial Experiments logo to this page in the future also, since that is the development group I am a part of now.

New Games and Programs
January 13th, 2002 |
Despite the fact that I am now a part of Serial Experiments Productions, and Neo-Jaguar is no longer supposed to exist, I will still be updating NJE for a while, because the SE Productions site isn't finished, and various sites and bookmarks may still link here for a while. It will be a nice, smooth transition. =] NJE will also stay updated for the various projects such as Stone of Reikai and DE2EP.
Now, like I said up above, there are now some new games and programs. (Yatta!) These games are programmed for the Texas Instruments series of calculators. Specifically, these are for the TI-83+ although they may work on some others as well. I realize, they are all in text, which went out with the TI-81. =| That is because I don't have a Graf-link to use with my computer. Yeah, so I'm behind, oh well. At least other TI-83+ users who don't have a Graf-link can use these, they'll probably be overjoyed.
To take a look at some of these games and programs, go into the Products section, or just click on the links under "Latest Releases." =]

Major Changes at NJE
January 3rd, 2002 |
Neo-Jaguar Entertainment has just gone through a very major change. Ever since NJE was started, it has had a total of 1 members, not exactly much of a Development Group is it? Well, this has now been solved. There will no longer be much of a Neo-Jaguar Entertainment. Neo-Jaguar Entertainment (or rather, I) have gone to join Serial Experiments Productions.
Now, you need not worry about NJE Projects and tsGames projects, they will be continued. The only change with those will be that they will be released under Serial Experiments. This includes the Stone of Reikai and un-finished DeathEgg II EP Alpha.
The Neo-Jaguar Website, however, will continue to stay here for a while, because the Serial Experiments website is currently under a re-design, and has not been updated since the re-design has begun.

Website Design Modified
November 22nd, 2001 |
As you can probably see, the website design has been modified. It has been designed to be basically a modified version of the old design. Also, I will be adding a web design section soon, and should be uploading some software in the near future. However, there may be some missing and/or broken links for the next couple of days. These will be fixed. =]
And while I'm at it, Happy Thanksgiving. =]

More Updates from the Troubled Computers...
October 19th, 2001 |
You may recall that last time there was an update, my computer has been going a little bezerk. Well, now it is dead. It is known that the hard drives still work, however the motherboard is most likely screwed. That means.. huge delays. =[
Also, because SoR is taking so long, I decided I would make the source code, and some other files public. =] Now, the source code is written for Jamagic (Designed in Jamagic Beta, there may be some compatability problems with the release.) however the only source code I have available at the moment was at the beginning of a conversion into Java for the SoR Alpha. That means that some vital portions of code are probably commented out, and some of the code is a Jamagic/Java hybrid. The source code can be found here. (107978 bytes)
An unused Java applet for the main menu can be found here. (3964 bytes) The Java applet is not compiled and can be viewed and edited with ease. Another file that may be of interest is reikai_civilizations.txt (2861 bytes)

About Stone of Reikai...
July 19th, 2001 |
I know, I said there would be screenshots in a week, but it has been a month. I have been tied up in other work, and have had to delay SoR for several reasons.
1) My screen is all messed up and is extremely bright. I am unable to see the results of the game because the white text blends in too much with brown. (on my screen it appears light yellow on the darkest setting) Heck, even black shows up as 50% grey. Hopefully I'll get this fixed soon.
2) I need to take a break from SoR or my head will explode. =]
However, for your benefit, I am working on a few smaller games which I can release between now and SoR, whenever that will be finished. =P
Oh, and by the way, be sure to check out Serial Experiments James just uploaded the classic Welfare game. =]

Progress on the Stone of Reikai hits a roadblock.
March 7th, 2001 |
Progress on the Stone of Reikai has almost come to a complete stop. This 'roadblock' may cause a delay in the release of the Beta version of the game. First of all, there have been some recent problems with the Japanese language support. Thanks to Microsoft, not all of the Japanese charecters are showing up. Some are even showing up as what seems to be Chinese.
Second of all, major bugs in the engine have been found. The game is being re-programmed in The Games Factory using programming techniques that will make it very easy to re-program back into Java. (If it weren't for the GUI, I'd swear the code in TGF IS Java) This may delay the beta for a few weeks. Graphical work, however, is nearly completed now, which gives us all something positive to look forward to.

Bilingual Support a Possibility for Stone of Reikai
February 27th, 2001 |
It is a work in progress, and has gotten much praise so far. So why not support multiple languages? This would definately help broaden the userbase of Neo-Jaguar.
Although it is not confirmed that there will be support for languages other than English, NJE has already taken the step into requesting help from bilingual people on the internet. Japanese is the primary 'second language' being planned for the game. Other languages are still being considered.
