HIGH SCHOOL RECOMMENDATIONS

Seton Home Study School:

Seton is an accredited school (Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges) and hence almost all high schools and colleges across the nation will accept their diploma or transfer credits with no questions asked.  Furthermore, Seton can provide your child with a first-rate education which will rival the very best private or public schools.  The tuition is very reasonably priced at under $500 per year per child.  This includes all of your textbooks and access to teachers and counselors.

Seton has a very traditional liberal arts curriculum.  Although Seton is a Catholic school, they accept any student regardless of their religious affiliation.  Furthermore, Seton offers non-denominational Christian text and secular text, as well as their Catholic text.  Students who are not Catholic are not required to enroll in the religion classes; however, these classes are required for the Catholic students.

You can enroll your child for the full curriculum or individual classes.  Seton Educational Media offers most of their textbooks for sale for those wanting to purchase their text but not actually enroll in their program.

Core Curriculum Offerings:  Four years of English, American Literature, World Literature, World History, American History, American Government, Geography, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Advanced Math, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Physical Science, Earth Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Spanish I, Spanish II, Spanish III, French I, French II, French III, Latin I, Latin II, Latin III, four years of Religion..

Bob Jones University - HomeSat:

Although not an accredited school, HomeSat offers your children a unique opportunity to receive their high school math, science, foreign language, and geography classes via satellite directly to your home.

These classes are live and on-line with a multitude of Christian private schools across the country.  The teachers and students interact throughout the programming, hence your child will experience a real-time classroom-type atmosphere in the comfort of their own home.

The classes are 45 minutes each in length and are broadcast Monday-Friday.  There is a repeat of each class over the weekend to enable you to actually tape the classes with your VCR.  This enables your child to repeat a lesson if needed or for review later on.

Of course, the textbooks used are from Bob Jones University Press.  There are tests and teacher's manuals available for each course should you desire to purchase them.

The cost is very reasonable.  Currently (1/2000) the cost of the satellite dish and receiver is approximately $150.  The cost to subscribe to HomeSat's programming is approximately $400 per year.  Your subscription allows you to receive a FULL curriculum of programming for grades K-8, with math, science, foreign language, and geography classes being broadcast for grades 9-12.
