Every day between 11am and noon I would walk into this room and buy my lunch. Around the block from my hotel it was two Peruvian gents who tipped me off on this hidden gem. Here I could load up my cardboard/styrofoam container 1/2 full of a variety of mouth-watering meat dishes, with the remaining 1/2 tasty vegetables. For one of the most delicious meals I have ever eaten that would leave me stuffed full to exploding, it would daily cost me from 6 to 10 yuan -- or $1.07 to $1.78 Canadian.

The locals -- who were businessmen, shop owners and labourers -- were always amused to see me buying my lunch here. With lunch in hand I would buy a cola and take to a bench or park where I could sit comfortably to watch the street crowds and enjoy my meal.

The Chinese who had come into the big city from surrounding towns would get a kick out of seeing me sitting on a bench, devouring my meal with chopsticks. People would even take pictures of me while eating (but that was a common experience no matter where I went, no matter what I was doing).
