One could not ask for a better place to stay than the Pujiang Hotel, located a block away from the Bund (Zhongshan Road), two blocks away from Shanghai's most famous shopping avenue (Nanjing Road), and a ferry ride away to Pudong's skyscrapers.

For $10 a night I set up camp for three months. Being on the sixth (top) floor of the hotel, to the amusement of many travelers, the dormitory toilet had the best city center view of any hotel we ever stayed in.

This picture, however, is from the window by my bed -- which I would look out every morning upon waking to see if it was a sunny day.
