Being treated like a rock star everywhere I went in China was great ... at first. However, with 1.3 billion Chinese looking one's direction day after day the novelty wears off.

The remedy was to buy a $1 cap (and later a $4 shirt), plus $1 sunglasses, tie my hair into a ponytail and tuck it down the back of my shirt -- to camouflage myself from the intense curiousity of the Chinese.

It worked. Whereas 8 or 9 out of 10 Chinese noticed me walking down a street before, only 1 or 2 of that same 10 noticed me 'undercover'.

Here I am, being driven to drink on a hot summer afternoon, in Northern China.
