The School of Athens (1509-1510AD)
by Raphael (Raffaello Sanzio, 1483-1520)

A condensed 'why' this is my favorite painting: (for me) the hand gestures of the two central characters, Plato & Aristotle, flawlessly reflect the nature of the conflict behind a humanity in 'civil war'.

As to the place where man is to find his definition and ultimate meaning (what and why is man?) -- Plato points to the heavens, while Aristotle motions to the earth.

As a thinking animal of this earth I am an advocate of Aristotle's vision. And through purposeful thinking, speaking & working to build a life to enjoy and be proud of, I aspire to clarify man's existence and nature.

As a consequence of my actions -- personally, professionally and politically -- I (indirectly) strive to individually and culturally uproot the nihilistic alternative of Plato.
