During the trek in Peru I slept in a hammock. This tour the men built a shelter on the ground each night using small trees, vines and plastic tarps. I would step in to hang my mosquito net, lay down my blanket and settle in for the night.
As the forest comes to life at night Silverio and Justino were constantly alert to animals in proximity of camp, shotgun at hand. Though I slept soundly most nights, animals to pass by included pigs, tapirs, armadillo, deer, even the ever-elusive jaguar with its distinctive strong body smell.
