Pictures: skinning, cooking and carrying the white-lipped peccary.

We ate two white-lipped peccary this trek. The first pig, killed on day two, was a large male weighing an estimated 40 kg. The second pig, killed on day sixteen, was a smaller female. These pigs with their long, sharp and protruding teeth can be dangerous to hunt -- not only for a man but for the jaguar.

The initial and final days of the trek were in flat areas of the forest heavily populated by peccary, up to a couple hundred of the animals in some groups. The in-between days, as we ascended higher into the hills, they were not to be seen anywhere. The highland terrain being dominated by groups of spider-monkeys.
