Above: funky unicorn-caterpillars kicking back on a leaf.

Below: on day twelve, while leisurely floating down Rio Hondo, the guys said "Look! A tapir!" I was shocked to see a tapir swimming directly toward our raft. He passed within five or six feet and kept on going, submerging and surfacing, towards shore. My first ever wild tapir sighting!

Third picture is the first decent photograph of monkeys in six weeks of rainforest trekking. It is almost impossible to get these creatures on 'film' due to a combination of poor forest lighting and the height of the tree canopy. These red howler monkeys made a decent enough lens impression to finally make the website.

Howlers are awesome monkeys to listen to. They go into full growling mode about 4-6am every morning. If you didn't know what made the noise you would think supernatural wraiths were storming through the forest. On the morning of day nine I woke to two groups of howlers wailing in full Lucasfilm sound.

Fourth photo is of a transparent-winged butterfly (whose wings reflected the flash of the camera).
