South American Sea Lions

Battle-scarred bulls come right onto the sidewalk in the city of Valdivia, watching you watch them, barking and chasing one another around.

The draw is -- of course -- food as the city's fish market is located here. In the morning these giant beasties are well-fed by fishermen who toss hundreds of (fish) heads & tails into the water. Then, for the rest of the afternoon, they simply laze around the docks and sidewalks posing for cameras.

Size and weight of the lions can vary a lot. Adult males have an average length of 2.6m (8ft6in) and an average weight of about 300kg (660lb). Adult females have an average length of 1.8–2m (6–7ft) and usually weigh about half the weight of the males, around 150kg (330lb).

Final two pictures are of Valdivia itself.
