No shoes, minimual future.  This could be just about anywhere in Vietnam.  You had to feel sorry for the kids.

Probably taken on FSB Ryder in 1970.

The Marine is named Woods.

When I was at LZ Baldy we stood security for some SeeBees building roads in the area.  Part of our weapons was a 50 cal mounted on a jeep.  One guy, can't remember his name but he had been an MP in Danang until he had been sent to Golf in September.  He wanted to fire the 50 Cal just to be firing it, sort of a hoot he seemed to figure.  Lacking permission he tossed a grenade into the brush beside us.  Screamed, "Incoming.  I'll cover the tree line."  And spent the next few seconds blazing away.

John Widrig at the Rockcrusher.

It was really a crappy place.  The tents were rags.  There were no people around.  It was ugly, even by the standard of combat bases.
