From Dennis Woodward.

Taking a nap.  Something we all did just about whenever we got a chance.  With standing watch taking up to a third of your night, patrolling during the day, and all the usual things one has to do we were usually pretty short on sleep.

Standing watch really sucked.  Typically you would have two watches during the night.  This pretty much ensured a bad nights sleep because what you would end up with is two, three hour naps.  Toward the end of my tour I hit on another way.  For a period of time I made a deal with the other two that stood watch with me.  They could go to sleep whenever they wanted to and I would stand watch until midnight.  Then they had to split the rest of the night between them.  Worked out ok for me anyway.
Sgt. Graves on the left and Sgt. Dennis Woodward on the right.  This was taken in Danang.  They had been sent in to pick up some new guys.  Since the very essence of a good NCO is to know when action MUST be taken they have obviously analyzed the situation and decided that, "Fuck'm they can wait until we get a couple of cold brews."

Graves may have been wounded on Allenbrook.
