LZ Ross - Que Son Mountain area.
From about the 20th of August 1969 until the first of January 1970 2/7 patrolled this area. It was an awful place. Heavily forested, very steep, and when you are walking it was a long way from anywhere.
For at least part of the time the Battalion headquarters was in the field with the rest of us. Headquarters was code named "Chilepepper" and was located somewhere on the low hills just north of Antenna Valley. For a while 1st platoon had the job of standing security for Chilepepper. Didn't last very long, a couple of weeks maybe, but it was very cushy duty. Relitively speaking. |
