QUALIFICATIONS

CCNP/CCDA with thirteen years IT experience, primarily in Cisco-based multi-media, multi-protocol LAN/WAN environments of varying size and complexity. In-depth knowledge of RIP, EIGRP, OSPF and BGPv4. Extensive experience with Cisco router (700-7500), switch (1900-6500) and access server (AS5200-AS5800) hardware. Experience with ATM, Frame Relay, leased-lines, ISDN (BRI/PRI) and POTS. LAN experience covers core Ethernet, Wireless and Token Ring. Intermediate knowledge of, and familiarity with, UNIX/Linux based network management.

  • Built a physical testing environment to support a variety of testing scenarios on used networking hardware intended for re-sale.
  • Designed testing and support procedures and trained staff on same, enabling more self-sufficient operations.
  • Designed and implemented an IP networking solution to improve performance, reliability and security on a switched LAN with a Frame Relay WAN link. Added VPN links to same network on a later date.
  • Implemented an ATM IMA WAN solution to seamlessly improve performance on an existing network.
Network Engineer TalkLine GmbH Hamburg, Germany 11/1999 to 4/2002

Major telco/ISP in the German domestic and business market. Responsibilities: Network design, implementation, maintenance & 24/7 operation for major German ISP. Project development oversight and management, introducing new products. Third-level technical support.

Accomplishments:

  • Assisted in expanding the network from <100 to >250 nodes with capacity for 16,000 concurrent dial-in users, ADSL /SDSL, well over a thousand business customers and several hundred BGP peers.
  • Designed and implemented the core gigabit LAN in Hamburg for complete physical redundancy, eliminating the possibility of catastrophic loss of service.
  • Used VPDN to implement customized accounting and access control solutions on the existing infrastructure, providing TalkLine's customers with specific solutions at a low cost in development, time and resources.
  • Worked with Cisco developers to develop a RADIUS-based Large-Scale Dial-Out solution, moving customer information out of the access servers to a central UNIX server, simplifying administration.
  • Performed round-the-clock operation and troubleshooting work on TalkLine's infrastructure, on-site and remote.

Networking Consultant WM-Data BFC Herning, Denmark 12/1997 to 11/1999

Value-added reseller of IT hardware, IT solution provider. Responsibilities: Network consulting work for >100 customers in the small and mid-sized business segment.

Accomplishments:

  • Prepared bids for contracts, preliminary designs etc., preventing costly errors and helping our group exceed its six-month sales goals 3 times in a row.
  • Assisted in increasing sales through presentations and responses to customers' technical questions; demonstrating BFC's in-house know-how.
  • Managed the logistics of acquiring network hardware, WAN lines (utilizing telco experience and contacts), Internet services and cabling, helping our team maintain its record of timely delivery.
  • Diagnosed and trouble-shot various network problems, most often on-site, minimizing downtime for our customers -- some of which were production or even medical facilities with very low downtime tolerance.
  • Designed and implemented a highly secure infrastructure for BFC's remote server management service. Same infrastructure also offered a flexible mixed-media VLAN environment for BFC's PC configuration plant.

Systems Planner Tele Danmark Datacom Aarhus, Denmark 8/1993 to 12/1997

A recent conglomerate of 4 regional WAN providers into one national carrier. Responsibilities: WAN administration and implementation, managing the internal PC network group and leading the development on a major IP network.

Accomplishments:

  • Led a small task force with responsibility for Datacom's PC infrastructure, including planning, budgeting, vendor and subcontractor contact, integration with legacy systems, server administration and hardware work on PCs, servers and LAN infrastructure. Our efforts provided Datacom (a recent merger of 4 smaller companies) with a seamless infrastructure that was considerably more modern and user-friendly than the legacy mainframe-based systems.
  • Led the technical development on Datacom's network solution for the Danish Ministry of Education, "Sektornet", eventually providing >800 schools with a managed Cisco-based solution for Internet access and secure internal IP connectivity.
  • Took part in implementing Denmark's first public Frame Relay network.

Application Programmer ComLink A/S Aarhus, Denmark 1/1990 to 8/1993

A value-added communications company, offering automated B2B communication. Responsibilities: Developed EDIFACT-based messaging and database systems as part of a 4-man development team.

Accomplishments:

  • Gained proficiency in Software AG's 4GL development environment ADABAS/NATURAL and developed robust and effective applications.
  • Took part in specifying, designing, coding and testing the company's main on-line application, TransLink. Designed and developed another application, TradeLink. Both applications delivered on time and as specified.
  • Implemented an EDI agreement between a Danish customer and a British supermarket chain by designing a PC-based software gateway between a Danish X.400 system and US-made GEIS software. This solution brought the Danish customer the British EDI award -- the first time this was awarded outside Britain.
