Essay on "How TSO's Economy Got
F*cked Up"

Whether you're new to TSO, or recently returned, I know what you're thinking: "What the holy-$h!ting-heck happened and why MUST I be a millionaire to own anything?!"   Listen to my story, and then hear my important advice of what to do.   Please don't skip over my Personal Facts, as they will prove useful to explain the story of how I went from poor to rich.   This page tells you:
The history of TSO's economy.
How millions and billions of sim dollars proliferated out of thin air.
How the money cheat works (worked).
Explination of Interhogan gnome-give-away.
How to be rich & successful; not needing a store or wealth. [not finished]
What you can expect from TSO's economy based on statistics. [not finished]

December 2004 - December 2005
The highest payout known to man (sim) was 1k.   I can't say what rares sold for, but I am positive less than 50 people knew the cheat code.   Face it, if you knew - you sold money on eBay. (And I dind't see many different eBay sellers for TSO simoleans.)  Nothing much to report other than trees sold for a high of 5mill in late December 2005. I believe 1mill sold for $7 on eBay. Fruit sold at 30k even though nobody could afford it until they did a hard long week at their painful sim job.

December 2005 - December 2006
(... to be exact is late December to late December.)  I recall in CC we were having 5k payouts which the owner only started on Christmas day (2005). (she paid the highest; second highest was 3k)  By about February the owner in CC quit her 5k payouts, and 3k was the highest from that point on (until forever).  According to citizens of BF, payouts rose from 4k to 5k in early April, 2006.  Later on you'll see the cheat started on about the 3rd week of December (2006); exactly 1 year later.

Personal Fact:
In April, 2006, I moved to BF to find 5k jams - and was incredibly shocked by the 40% gain compared to CC & AV (3k).  I jammed about 5 hours a day. lol  Later from September to late November I was an excellent roomie at Money Street, where I distributed 5k payouts for 5-7 hours on a daily basis.  I've got records of cashing out 100mill worth of payouts in those 3 months.  Having acquired 14mill in 10 months of jamming (in CC and BF), soley from jamming, I was very keen on what rares sold for.  My goal was purchasing a tree.  The following statistics are very accurate.

Let's recap on what rares used to cost (before the exploit became widely known) from December 2005 - December of 2006:
  • Cake - . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 250k
  • Campfire - . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.8mill
  • Open Cannon - . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4mill
  • Boxed Cannon - . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4.5mill
  • N Robo/Pink Poodle/Turk - . . . 20mill
  • Open Tree - . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 50mill
  • Boxed Tree - . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 55mill
  • Gnome - . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . priceless ;)
(lol, people always refused 2-4 trees.)
  • I would call these prices "regular" because let's face it - payouts have only risen 4x (20k) in the present time, yet everything we want to buy costs 20x.  From this point on I'm comparing prices to the "regular" numbers above.

    January 2007 - February 21st 2007
Again, the dates are precise because it was the 30th of December when this problem began.  On this week trees sold at unbelievable prices, causing an inflation in the economy.

I can't tell you about other cities, but as a Blazing Falls addict I can only share with you the BF perspective.  There was once a sim called JennySue61529.  Now this sim was a total cheater - she offered me 110mill for each of my trees at the time they were selling for 50mill.  After that week not a single tree sold for under 90mill in BF - 200% increase in just 1 week!

    Personal Fact:
With around 250mill in my pocket, I scoped out other cities for cheap trees to sell to JennySue; as dozens did in BF.  Toward the end, I bought and sold around 20 to 25 trees.  With each sold there was roughly a 20mill gain.  At the moment I did have 3BILL in cash - divided amongst my 3 sims since each sim can only hold 2.14...bill.  I, as many others, had a hobby of using this opportunity to get rich by buying/selling rares. After a while I bought too many!  Keep reading to see why this was not profitable.

With doenzs (if not HUNDREDS) performing the cheat code, the value of simoleans quickly lost value.  Prices for rares at all-time-high in mid February, 2007:
  • Cake - . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5mill
  • Campfire - . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 150mill
  • Open Cannon - . . . . . . . . . . . . 1.5bill+
  • Boxed Cannon - . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1.5bill+
  • N Robo/Pink Poodle/Turk - . . . 1bill exact
  • Open Tree - . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.14bill (sim max)
  • Boxed Tree - . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2.14bill (sim max)
  • Gnome - . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . still priceless ;)
  • With items costing well over the 2.14mill, people resorted to trading rares for rares.  This led to a large increase in scammers.  Also, each $mill on eBay sold for 1 cent - no joke!!!

Jam payouts hit a high of 150k in BF, although that was only 1 money house.  The average payouts in BF & AV were 100k, and I do believe the smaller cities had 50k on a regular basis.  I'd have to estimate 25% of the people in TSO could perform the money cheat.  Yet 50%, as myself, knew but could not fully complete it.  You have to understand the cheat to know why only some had the magic touch.  Click here for instructions on how it was performed. The money cheat has been around for years, ever since TradeMark started giving out 1mill for $50. During this time people who could sucessfully perform the cheat told 1 or 2 of their friends.... who told 1 or 2 of their friends.  -.- This is why everything was so expensive, and why 1mill only for for a peny on eBay.

    April 30th
From April 21st to 29th Interhogan was closed due to unknown reasons.  As a reward for waiting so long, all members of IH received 1 gnome.  Whether they haven't logged in IH for a day, or a month - they got one.  At first people sold them for 80mill; other IHers were conned and felt proud selling theirs at 1mill.  If I had to guess how many gnomes were in ALL TSO before this occurance... I'd estimate 200-250 gnomes.

Many people sold them, others left them as a gift; turning down 600mill offers (I was there, I was turned down).  For some reason people thought, "I have a rare gnome!  I feel happy letting that expensive piece sit in the front of my yard staring at all the poor losers - rather then making a good 250+ million off it."

A lot of you may remember Luc posting that AV and BF had 12,000 citizens, but PLEASE note that Luc is counting those who suspended their accounts; and those who log in once a month (aka: not true members at all).  With this info we can give or take BF or AV each had roughly 2,000 active members.  In IH how many active members would you say we have, hmmmm? 100, possibly 150 at the most?  This is the problem I absolutely HATE.  Just because the gnome population increased 40% does not mean everyone has to go crazy by making the value of gnomes deminish 70%.  Yes, it's true - once IH had this spur of gnomes, all gnomes demiinished in value from their old value of '4 trees worth'.  What I mean is - gnome owners never used to sell their gnomes, not even for 2bill after the exploit... why is it after the gnomes increase a tiny bit they are suddenly worth only 100-500mill?  I had a gnome - it was priced at 550mill for weeks, so I then lowered it to 500mill and it sold after 5 days.

    My Thoughts:
Remember how many times AV or BF have been closed throughout the past 4 years?  Take the total hours (3 here... 4 there) and tell me... do they add up to the same number of hours as when IH was closed for 5 days? Not even f***ing close!  Damn you EA for not giving us anything from all we've suffered. (we being BF & AV)  And just to add more math to the equation - BF was closed for 2 days around the same time IH was.  Are you blind EA?  We (BF/AV) actually had more hours shut down that IH in the long run.  Lastly, IH is simply scrawny compared to AV and BF's population.  EA, you are not compensating for our outages over the past 4 years... you suck.  >:|

    Present Time
The prices of rares quickly deminished.  Trees instantly went from costing 2.14bill to 1.1bill the week after the cheat exploit was fixed. Today is August 18th and I can say that all trees are selling for around 450-400mill depending on city. (Much more to say, too busy to type.)
