The History of TSPR | |||||
1998 The site was lunched april 7th 1998 or.. some where close to that, i had just read in a game pro about sonic adventure about it being in the works and the new system "the sega dreamcast" after reading this 3 page article i deciced/vowed id get a dreamcast and that game when it came out being an insanely advid sonic fan :). I was really anxious for the game so i searched online alot for information on it. a friend of mine, actually 2 of them, scott and cody had made a few websites useing homestead and i decided i should make a sonic website to prove my fandom and thus "The sonic power ring" was born. of course at that time the site was hosted on homestead.com when they didnt charge for the accoutn :( i built the site there and it was fairly small and low trafficed but it was maintaned and updated everyday at the public liabrary.. i didnt have my own pc or the net then. I was 13 or 14 at the time... i cant remeber... 1999 sonic adventure and the dreamcast arrived and low and behold they didnt even get it on the shelves before i d knockewd over the storeclerk rushing to the game case at my local zellers( kinda like a walmart in canada) so i added a hole page tribute to how much the game kicked ass and everything was smooth sailing 2000 now heres the year everything went semi down hill homestead started charging cash NOOOOOO! so i had a month to start paying or lose tspr damn.. my friend andrew to the rescue! he had a homestead account and he was paying for his cuz he had a few friends using it as well ample space for file storage on it and as manysites as you liked, and he let me move the site there for free tspr was saved..... about halfway through 2000, our first "Site down" had occured.. a power outage had struck while i was saving the site to the account after a major update that got me pretty ticked off, I was working on it for 6 hours and a half and had given the site a massive over hual... it took a month to get it back up to the way it was under the name "the sonic power ring version 2.0" 2001 the site was back up and running yay! with frequent updates lots to do like a massive code archive, downloadable episodes of all the sonic tv shows, previews on all new sonic games and a hit counter of over 8,000, may not sound like much but it was an all time high for the little site that had become a niche for a few sonic fans and it was even begining to get reconised by the big guys in the sonic website area like "sonic hq" and even sonic team .com had us linked for a short while :) sadly at the end of 2001 we got hit by a virus.. a zip file we'd uploaded to the acount had a virus on it and it got out and recked the hole server that held all of homesteads sites, they were able to repair the damage but all that remained of the sites in our acount were there adresses and nothing more so we had to start from scratch the second time (3rd if you count intially building of the site.) 2002 The site was rebuilt yet again lol, under the title "the sonic power ring ver 3.0" this year nothing went bad at all thank god but we did upgrade alot, giving the site a whole new look and a cool framed look so visiters could get to all the pages with out having to hit the back button some many times on the left was a small page with all the sections linked on it :) (which if i can figure out how to do here i will re-do when i have enough pages to call this a site again) so since it was so different from the previous versions we called it "the sonic power ring version 3.1" with about 30 affiliates and such and we even made it to the wizards lair in "the site fights" on the site fights .com which is a little thing where people vote for your site and you move up in rooms until your crowned the site fights champion great fun i recommend signing your site up for it if ya have one. 2003 the year of dread, about half way through, roughly 7 and a half months in, andrews grandparents maxed out there credit cards which was the only thing keeping us on the net in termes of webspace and andrew couldnt pay the lousey $6.50 canadian(non of us were employed, we were too young) to keep the site online anymore and tspr went down in flames... for the next 6 months tspr was totally gone and replaced by a "site not found" message, loads of emails poured in asking what's up? and i was frantically searchin the net for a suitable free online account to rebuild, cuz like me, tspr has a habit of never knowing when to lay down and die. and the message board remained online becuase it was off site hosted by proboards.com and a fine job they do too :) so it was all that was left eventually members quit and deleted there acounts and the forums slowly died but they stayed online.... only 3 members besides me remained, kingshadow Anonknuckles and braker thanks guys! But no one was on them it seemed as if tspr had finally gone down and stayed there... with no money for the account and a lack of webspace there of... tspr died. 2004 Roughly 4 months into 2004 a friend emailed me sayign i should check out the forums and that people were there. so i checked into it and sure enough there were, they talked me into looking for a hsot again and i choose geociities.com and tspr came back with the url "www.oocities.org/tspr4" 2005 someone posted a link to adult material ont he shout box and geocities locked the accoutn and i couldnt update an more, i called them to try to get it opened again but no dice, 2 months later i got tired of waiting and asked them to delete the old account and opened a new one and started to rebuild again. the new url was "www.oocities.org/tspr5" a new layout with out the frames and a completely new more colourful look was given to the site |
