A portion of the will of James Davis.

Information obtained from a copy of the handwritten will of James Davis, Jessamine County, Kentucky. The will was entered in the December Court of Jessamine County, Kentucky for the year 1835. His will leaves land and household items to his children. He named his four sons in the will as William, Russell,John and David. He named his four daughters as Harriett, Rhoda, Margret and Diannah. (I am not sure of the correct spelling for the name Harriett but appears to be what he wrote). He did not mention his wife in the will and I assume or guess that she must have died prior to 1835. He does name Diannah and David Davis as his two youngest children and mentioned they were not of legal age. He named an executor as Geo ________. I could not read the last name but it was similar to Theisman perhaps. In the will he asks his older children to raise David Davis his youngest son. This copy of his will was sent to me by MichaelAnne Guido. This information may help in finding relations of the Davis family that lived there at the time.

I do not think this James Davis is the father of James B Davis which is obvious from the information in the will. He might be related to James B Davis. The James Davis who wrote this will might be part of the Davis and Carter family from Virginia that MichaelAnne Guido provided information on. I did compare handwriting in will to handwriting in note provided by Michael Anne Guido of Hannah Davis permission but concluded the comparison is useless as the note may not have been signed by James Davis and Hannah made her mark. This is the other "Davis" family on some of the census pages between 1810 to 1830. This is further verified by the will itself as the property is on Hickman Creek where my ancestor James B Davis lived in the Keene Kentucky area in 1830 which is west near the line with Woodford County.
