Because of the name Straughair is not common, many people have asked me the question "Where did the name originate?"
Now being a man of very sober thoughts and etc, I thought that it would wise to elucidate not only my own family but also those who are interested in the stupid ravings of a man who has some difficulty in giving a reasonable answer to a sensible question.
I must make it quite clear that the following genealogy and details are to my knowledge are in all ways truthful and accurate and I am indebted to a relative, Graham Tongs for the Family tree which has saved me a considerable amount of work.
However the foregoing preamble requires a lot of mind twisting to be believed, but fiction, no matter how far fetched it may be, if you want to believe what I have just written------- well that's ok but then perhaps my name could be "Hans Christian Andersen Straughair."
This family history covers the known details of the Tongs family, through to the Cullen and then to the Straughair's commencing with the marriage of my father and mother. There is another tree although quite small contains the few details of the known "Straughair" genealogy, however it is a very revealing story of the contribution that this side of the family has made to early Australian history.
I would like to make it quite clear inspite of what my friends may say about me I have not followed in the footsteps of Grandfather Straughair or his associates.
