ThoughtsLet's start by saying I ~really~ love VariA's music *_* They have a fast, hard rock sound that has pretty much dissapeared from the scene and been replaced with a a slower, more ambient style. Unfortunately I'm not a huge fan of Homare's vocals ^^;;; They're kind of like something out of generic 80s death-metal ^^; But his voice does grow on you after awhile and the music is definately worth learning to tolerate Homare's singing ^_^; I found VariA's website early on in 2000. I downloaded some mp3s, read up on them and started to consider myself a fan of theirs. But aside from linking to them on most of my webpages and listing them as a band I liked on several profiles, I didn't pay them that much attention ^^; Then, about a month ago, I ended up in a Shibuya bar with the guitarist, Nakaji. *L* ...Getting completely shit-faced for the very first time in my life. We ended up missing the last train home and spent the whole night wandering around Tokyo after-hours. I actually blew off an Amadeus concert to hang out with him... and as it turns out, the afterparty (which Kozi from Malice Mizer showed up at!) *sniffle* But it was worth it! Nakaji is completely adorable. I would gladly blow off more after-parties for him in the future!! *L* So my thoughts on this band are probably completely biased and invalid to you. Half of my affection for them is a side-effect of my affection for Nakaji. But hey, the other half was well-earned... and long before I even dreamed of meeting any of them. -tsurara 4-13-01 Follow-up. Be careful what you wish for, right? Well Homare has left the band. New vocalist, new bassist, new image, new costumes, new photos, new songs, new VariA. I haven't heard the new material yet, but I'm a little scared! What will it be like? Still, Nakaji seems pleased with the results: "so far, so good" he says. All I can do is believe in him and hope for the best! On a related note, it's been about 6 months since I became friends with Nakaji. I had expected to lose touch by now. But still every few days when I wake up, there's mail from Nakaji. I guess I should stop being surprised. This guy is the real thing. So much for being a VariA fan *L* I think I'm getting too used to the idea of being a Nakaji friend. -tsurara 7-17-01 |
