Is your summer this idyllic? |
Probably not. If you are like the rest of us, you are looking for ways to keep your children busy and entertained without the use of the television or expensive amusement parks. |
Check out our past projects, or keep reading for new crafts! We have fallen in love with inexpensive terra cotta! |

Materials needed: Terra Cotta Pot and Saucer (at least one of each) in sizes desired Acrylic Paint Clearcoat finish |
First, check to make sure your saucer-pot assembly is stable. There are several ways to stack them to get an effective birdbath: |
Upside down saucer, then upside down pot, then upside right saucer (see picture above) Upside down pot, upside right saucer Upside down pot, upside right pot, upside right saucer |
Then, paint or decorate your pots and saucers as desired. Family.com does not recommend painting the upper edge of the saucer, as birds will have trouble gripping. We experimented and found our birds were still able to enjoy the bath even with painted edges. After painting, spray the pots and saucers with clear protective coating. Allow them to dry, and assemble the pots and saucers. If desired, shells, rocks, or marbles can be placed in the bottom of the saucer for decoration. Place the birdbath near trees or tall grasses or plants so the birds will feel safe. Fill with water and enjoy watching the birds. |

Paint the saucer and pots in desired manner. My children made rainbow pots (one in each color of the rainbow), animal stripes, and one made little summertime animals (frogs, fish, birds, etc). Your kids will have great ideas of their own-let them be creative! There is no wrong way to paint! |
