Lee Ann called the meeting to order at 9:40 a.m., Bldg. 630/Room 130

Opening Remarks made by Amber welcoming members.

REPORT OF OFFICERS: Amber made announcements for officers not in attendance.

  1. Secretary – Requested articles, announcements, etc.  for next newsletter
  1. Treasurer:

a.       Provided Treasurer’s report that there is approximately $1600.00 in the SNA account. Explained to members that every year, among other things, SNA donates a minimum of $1000.00 to charity of choice, donates $1000.00 in scholarships to SNA members, donates $500.00 to pinning ceremony as well as pay for costs to send delegates to state and national SNA conventions. We would like money to assist in reducing membership fees, providing nursing books to the library, as well as increasing scholarship amounts, etc.  However, in order to do these things, we really need help with fundraising ideas and execution of events. Fundraising ideas that the Treasurer is looking to do this fall include: penny wars among the classes, scratch cards (the card is a coupon or free gift and the  person scratches off the amount they must pay for the card), bowl-a-thon, nursing packs, doughnut sales, etc.

b.      The next scheduled fundraiser is a Car Wash on June 28th 9-1 at the main campus. POC is Mary Ann Powers.

c.       Tashara suggested T-shirt sales as a fundraiser.  Amber explained that the board is looking into T-shirts and clinical bag sales, but faces a money shortage for purchasing the items upfront.  She mentioned that the board may have to wait until after Orientation sales and fundraisers this summer to reappraise the financial situation. She asked the members if only 1 of the 2 items could be procured, which items would the members support.  The members voted for clinical bag sales. Tashara suggested that perhaps businesses could sponsor SNA and provide T-shirts.  Amber stated she would discuss further with the student activities director and let the members and Tashara know what she finds out with regards to an actual sponsorship. Amber explained that cash donations must be approved by and sent to TTC’s Foundation.  As far as item donation, TTC’s Foundation must approve a request for SNA to approach a business for their donation.

3.   BTN: No report

4.   Public Relations:  Reminded people to check out SNA website www.oocities.org/ttcsnastudent/index.htm  and the SNA bulletin board for up-to-date information.

5.   Leg. Director:  Amber explained that SNA Legislative Director resigned for personal reasons. SNA posted an ad on the bulletin board for a replacement. The deadline was June 6th . SNA’s board has approved a candidate and is awaiting her response as to whether she accepts the position.

6.   2nd VP: Lee Ann presented 2 charities for member vote to be SNA’s sponsored Charity of the Year. The two charities presented were Camp Happy Days and Charleston Clefts.  She explained that Camp Happy Days provides help to children with cancer and Charleston Clefts provided help to children who have cleft palates and needed reconstructive surgery but whose families could not afford the costs.  A written/silent vote was taken. Camp Happy Days was voted to be SNA’s Charity of the Year.

a.       Lee Ann announced that Nursing 209 students must have a money order for exit exams. It is questioned whether the money order is due at registration or during the first week of class. Lee Ann stated that she was told the first week of class but would look into it.

b.      Lee Ann announced that Hepatitis B vaccines are now mandatory.  It is unknown how this new mandate will affect students who are in the process of getting vaccination series but will not have completed it prior to Fall registration.  For these students, Lee Ann recommended that they contact the Nursing division office and Dr. Brady.

7.      1st VP:  Amber announced the need for first aid volunteers for the Girl Scout Camp at the College of Charleston, June 21-28 and volunteers to perform blood pressure checks at the Charles Webb Health Fair July 12 from 10-2.  Tashara gave directions to members on the location of Charles Webb center. Amber announced the need for volunteers to help with sales and information at New Student Orientation, July 29th 2-9 p.m. in Bldg. 410.  There is a need for volunteers to help with planning of SNA/Phi Theta Kappa Health Fair on Oct. 4th.
