Regulations and restrictions
Most of your regular prescriptions at Indian Hills Animal Clinic can be refilled by telephone and then mailed to you. This includes heartworm and flea and tick preventatives, arthritis medications (such as Osteo-Biflex, Rimadyl and Deramaxx) and other substances which may require a prescription but are not controlled substances. The following restrictions apply:

* Only current clients of Indian Hills Animal Clinic and/or Dr. Philip Smith are eligible to use our mailorder service.

* Pets must have been checked for heartworms in the last year in order for us to dispense a heartworm preventative. Some products are not designed to be safely used on animals with pre-existing heartworm conditions. If your dog has been in for his/her yearly vaccinations within the last 12 months, then we have probably performed a heartworm check and you are good-to-go. Call the clinic if you have any questions as to whether your pet has been check and is up-to-date on vaccines and testing.

If your pet has been off of preventative for any length of time (including the winter months) then our veterinarians may recommend rechecking your pet's condition before resuming use of your regular preventative.

Pro-Heart six-month injectable preventative cannot be shipped by mail effectively. If your dog receives Pro-Heart you need only drop by the clinic with your pet to get the shot. The doctor does not have to be present and it only a takes a few minutes to have your pet updated and you'll be on your way!

* Controlled substances cannot be shipped from our clinic. These would include phenobarbitol, Tussigon, hydrocodone and a number of other drugs strictly regulated by the federal government. We can refill your prescription quickly by phone and have it waiting for you to pick up, however, so feel free to call us at 345-1231 and we can prepare your order ahead of time so you can pop in and pop out.

* Some medications require regular monitoring -- either of the pet's condition or of blood concentrations. If your pet is on such a medication (insulin, for example) then our veterinarians will have made you aware of the necessity of regular testing and/or examinations to maintain the proper dosage of that medication. If such testing is due, our staff will let you know when you call to refill your pet's prescription.
