Educational Opportunity - Part 2: Lawyers
By TT
Stephanie sat in her rapidly darkening apartment, trying to figure out how she would come up with $4,000. "Actually, only $1,500," she murmurred. She already had the $2,500 she promised, or would after tonight's job. That got her thinking about Ranger. He hadn't asked recently, but maybe she could go back to Rangeman to get the money. Given the time frame, she probably wouldn't have time to earn it all before it was due, but, maybe, Ranger would give her an advance...
"I smell smoke," a familiar, deep voice whispered in her ear.
A shriek escaped Stephanie as she launched herself off of the couch. Spinning around, she saw Ranger standing behind the couch chuckling softly. "Are you trying to scare me to death?" she demanded, placing one hand over her heart.
"Babe."
Taking a deep breath, she let it out slowly, knowing that one word would be all the answer she would receive. Glancing at the clock on the wall, she noticed she still had several hours before she needed to get ready for tonight's distraction.
As if reading her mind, Ranger walked around the couch and settled onto it. Reaching out, he pulled a willing Stephanie down beside him. "Slight change in plans," he informed, wrapping his arm around her shoulder. He leaned in and whispered in her ear, "He'll be at Roger's."
Stephanie couldn't stop the shiver that ran through her or her eyes fluttering shut at the feeling of Ranger's warm breath in her ear. It took her a moment to register what he said. "Roger's?" she asked, sitting bolt upright. "That's where all the lawyers go. Dickie..." Her words cut off with a gasp as Ranger sucked her earlobe into his mouth, instantly distracting her. "R-ranger," she gasped, her voice breathy and clearly communicating her rising need.
"Babe," he replied, his voice low and soft, almost more of a growl than a whisper.
Shaking her head slightly, she put a small amount of distance between her and Ranger. The look on his face showed amusement. Giving him a mini eye roll, she cleared her throat. “Is it still the same time?”
Ranger settled in the chair beside her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders, drawing her close. “We’re actually going to delay by about thirty minutes. We want to be sure he’s there and relaxed, but not too settled in.”
Stephanie allowed her head to rest against his shoulder. “Sounds good.”
