Educational Opportunity - Part 8: Odd Socks

Stephanie sat on her couch pairing up her socks. As much as she hated doing laundry, eventually, it became a necessary evil. All her other clothes were washed and put away. The only items left were her socks. She hated matching socks.

Eventually, all the matches she could make were made. Looking at the pile of odd socks left on her table, Stephanie let out a sigh and went to her closet to retrieve her odd sock bag.

Just as she settled back on the couch after emptying the bag, a knock sounded on her door.

Walking to the door, she peered through the peep-hole. A UPS delivery person was standing outside in his brown uniform. Opening the door, she looked at him, “Yes?” she asked.

“Stephanie Plum?”

“Yes. That’s me.”

He smiled and held out an electronic signature pad. “I have a delivery for you. If you would sign the pad, I’ll leave it with you and be on my way.”

Puzzled as to who would be sending her something, she shrugged off her questions and signed the pad. When she returned the pen to the delivery person, he handed her a delivery envelope and left.

Closing and locking the door, Stephanie walked over to the couch, moved the socks out of her way and sat down. Checking the delivery information on the outside, but the return address proved to be her address. “Weird,” she murmured reaching for the tab to tear it open.

Once it was open, she tipped the cardboard envelope to find out what was inside.

An odd assortment of things fell out. The one that caught her attention was a photograph of her niece Angie sitting on a chair, holding a copy of the London Times. An arm appeared in the picture on the right, pointing a gun at the girl’s head.
