The Date

Stephanie checked herslf in the mirror one last time. Though the dress wasn't something she would normaly wear, but it was perfect for tonight.

Smiling, she bounced down the stairs with her clutch for tonight, ready to fill it with the few necessities she would need.

To say that she was surprised by the invitation to dinner would have been an understatement, but after overcoming her initial shock, she had been thrilled at the idea. When she was informed they would be eating out at Rossini's, she couldn't be more pleased.

As she was dropping her cellphone into the small clutch, the door to the house opened and Joe entered. A low whistle sounded causing her to spin in surprise.

"Looking good, Cupcake," Morelli observed as he closed the door behind him. His eyes started to darken in appreciation of what she was wearing. "Not quite your normal fare, but very nice."

Stephanie beemed at him. "You think he'll like it?" she asked.

"He?" Joe asked, raising his eyebrows in question.

"Tonight's my date," Stephanie reminded. "I mentioned it this morning when I told you I wouldn't be home for dinner."

Stepping closer, Joe drew her into his arms and placed a gentle kiss on her lips. "You did, Cupcake," he assured. "But seeing you dressed like this, I forgot for a few minutes. And yes, I think he'll like it."

Stephanie rewarded him with a brilliant smile. "I thought so too," she agreed before returning his kiss before stepping out of his arms. "He should be here in a few minutes."

"Any idea what time you'll be back?" Joe asked, his eyes still mostly on Steph as he picked up the day's mail.

"Nope," she admitted as the doorbell sounded. "That's my date," she said with a smile.

"Have fun," Joe encouraged.

She smiled at the handsome man standing other side of the door. Opening the door and stepping outside, she brushed a kiss across his cheek. "Hi, Daddy," she greeted. "I'm ready to go."

Frank Plum offered his arm to his daughter and escorted her to the car.

Stephanie sighed in contnentment as her father walked back around to the driver's side. It had been a long time since they had gone out to eat on a father/daughter dinner, but it was a tradition worth renewing.
