The Forfeit
By TT
A scowl graced Ranger’s face as he lay on the couch in his apartment, his casted leg resting on several throw pillows.
He knew it was his own stupidity, his own ego that had brought him to this point, but the fact that he had lost didn’t sit well with him. He never lost. He was too careful to make sure he would come out of every situation the victor.
But Stephanie, he had discovered, could make him lose focus, lose the ability to think rationally.
Now it was time to pay up, to pay the forfeit for losing.
It wasn’t like he could go anywhere. The painkillers he was on left him unable to be alone. He didn’t want to take them, but knew he had no choice, at least not today. He couldn’t even use his crutches without help, the drugs made him so dizzy.
He heard the crinkle of cellophane coming from the kitchen and knew his time was up. His only consolation was that it would be over quickly.
His eyes followed Stephanie as she entered the room, a sly smile on her face. She stopped next to the couch and kneeled down beside him. Ranger refused to move his eyes from her face, to look at that thing. A shudder ran down his spine at the mere thought of it.
“Just lie back, Ranger,” Stephanie soothed, helping him to recline. She smiled more broadly and advised, “This isn’t going to hurt a bit.”
Ranger scowled.
“Open wide,” Stephanie advised.
With a sigh of resignation Ranger opened his mouth. He shuddered as the sugary confection touched his tongue. He closed his mouth, chewed and swallowed.
Stephanie chuckled softly. “See, I told you it wouldn’t hurt. One bite of a TastyKake down, the rest of the treat to go.”
