STROKE WARNING SIGNALS
By Teresa
Halsell
Did you know that every 53 seconds, someone in
the U.S. has a stroke, which is more than 600,000 people each year?
Stroke is the third largest cause of death, and the leading
cause of serious, long-term disability in the U.S.
In an effort to help end stroke, I, and others in the Milwaukee
area, will be running at the Disney Marathon in January.
I will be running in the cold and snow to prepare for the
26-mile run.
In conjunction with the physical challenge, I
have a fundraising goal of $3,000, for which I have raised more than
$1,600 to date for the American Stroke Association.
More than 70 percent of each dollar goes directly
towards research, education and advocacy programs.
If you would like to help end strokes, you can drop off a
tax-deductible contribution at 8414 S. Tuckaway Shores Drive.
Make any checks payable to the association.
Please share the following warning signals
with your loved ones, which come on suddenly:
- numbness or weakness in the face, arm or
leg, especially on one side of the body
- confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
- trouble seeing in one or both eyes
- trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance
or coordination
-severe headache with no known cause
MEET
MIKE AND BARB USCHAN
New
neighbors Mike and Barb Uschan moved to Tuckaway Shores because they had
friends here and they like the security and peaceful surroundings. All
of their visitors are impressed with the beauty of the lake, one of the
best kept secrets in Franklin. Mike likes the fact someone mows the lawn
and picks up the leaves.
Barbara is a retired elementary and reading specialist
teacher. She taught in the
Franklin School District and still sees the kids every week when she
volunteers at the Pleasant View
School Library Barb is
interested in arts and crafts and usually has one or
more projects going. For many years she has been knitting slippers which
she donates to the Rescue Mission.
Mike is an Author and Sports
Reporter. He writes non-fiction books for children from 2nd
grade through high school. He
has authored nearly 30 books which are found in libraries and schools.
His recent books are Biographies of Tiger Woods, Abraham Lincoln and
Thomas Jefferson. He also
reports on sports activities such as the Bucks, Brewers and the PGA. For
fun Mike is an avid reader and a fanatical golfer.

For those of you who have the outside faucet at your unit,
remember to turn off the water to avoid freezing.
THANK YOU NEIGHBORS
From
Penny Polhemus
I
would very much like to thank all my great neighbors
who have brought mail to my house over the years. (more so
lately) Unfortunately it appears delivery service is worsening. So I
really appreciate the extra time neighbors take to deliver mail to the
appropriate address. Thanks again!
MILWAUKEE THEATER
By Damien Jaques
Warm and fuzzy is how most of us like our entertainment
during the holidays, and the Broadway Baby dinner theater, a cozy little
spot on Milwaukee’s northwest side, is offering just that.
Playwright Tom Dudzick’s comedy, “Greetings,” contains the usual
family differences and low-grade sniping that reflect the stress of the
holidays,
but the Gorski can is blessed with Mickey, a mentally challenged young
man, who becomes the center of a Christmas miracle. While the plot turns
murky in an attempt to explain the unexplainable, “Greetings,” is a
warmly entertaining piece of theater.
The show runs Dec. 6 to Jan. 26 at Broadway Baby, 5132 W.
Mill Road. Tickets, which include dinner and the play, are $35 and $38.
Reservations can be made by calling (414) 358-2020 between noon
and 5pm, Monday through Friday.
