Saraya is a band that I've just recenty got into, but I can honestly say MAN WAS I MISSING OUT!!, They Came Out in 1989 with their self-titled Debut and the rest is history, So I'm going to share my review of this cd for anyone who's interested. Love Has Taken It's Toll-This song is really cool with a Bluesy Style acoustic intro which is provided by Tony Bruno (Danger Danger). I think the song's title says it all, the song is about how Love can take it's toll on your body, mind and soul. When you're in love you walk around like you're in a dream world, happy as can be, but when it's gone you can feel the toll it's taken on you. This is one of the Catchiest songs on the cd, A great way to start of a great album. Healing Touch- This song is awesome, for any fans of Keyboard oriented rock songs such as Danger Danger's first cd (Under The Gun in Particular) or some older Bon Jovi you should really dig this song. Keyboards and Rock guitar seem to really mesh well together, and this song is LIVING PROOF. This is probably one of my top 3 favourite songs on the cd for the lyrics and overall Melodicism, it's great. With Lyrics that really hit home. "I NEED A HEALING TOUCH, RECOVER FROM THE ONE I USED TO LOVE SO MUCH", for anyone who's ever been in a relationship that ended badly, then this song is sure to stir up some feelings. Tony Bruno really gets his point across in all the guitar tracks on this cd, and NEVER overplays although he could damn well do so if he tried, and I wouldn't be complaining. Get U Ready- This song is a cool catchy Rocker. The Guitars are pretty damn cool and so are the Vocals. It's your typical Rock tune with lyrics about love. It's not really one of my faves on the record but it's a good song, there's just not a big enough HOOK (Guitar-Wise) for my liking. Other than that it's a cool song. Gypsy Child- This song is right up there in my top 3 favourite songs on this record. The intro has a really cool clean tone, but then once the song kicks in with the riff it's so damn catchy, it really sticks in your head for hours on end. It's just straight Power Chords but Tony chugs em so that it causes a stimulating pulsating effect,it's a great hook if ya ask me. As far as riffs go it's the best song on the cd,and is indeed my favourite of the 3 top ones. Sandi really sounds good on this track also, her voice is so sexy, I don't think I've ever heard a woman singer with as much Balls and raw emotion as hers. Joan Jett and Lita Ford have nothing on Sandi. One Night Away- The intro to this song is really cool scaling by Tony and has some cool harmonics, it just goes to show how fluent this guy is in his playing. he amazes me how he can just let a riff or scale rip and it be so melodic yet simple, he proves the theory of mine that ya don't have to be a total TECHNICAL VIRTUOSO (Yngwie/Lynch/Vai) to come up with great hooks and harmonies. to me all there is in a song IS THE HOOK and the HARMONIES. It's only the Melody that counts in my book and this song has TONS OF IT. Alsace Lorraine-This is a cool little piano piece if ya ask me, sounds a bit on the classical side, but I could be wrong. To be honest though the song doesn't seem to really fit on the record because it's just a little 1 or 2 minute piano piece, it's not really an intro to the next song or anything, but it's a cool piece of music if ya judge it on it's own. Runnin' Out Of Time- This song just lets Er' Rip big time, it smokes. It's my #3 top favourite song from this record because it is just in your face rock. Sandi just puts the pedal to the metal and puts her money where her mouth is as far as proving that CHICKS CAN ROCK!, and she's right. This song is another one that has tons of hooks and great melodies. Sandi and Tony work great together and the proof is on this song. It's to bad this group is long gone cuz they rocked big time. Back To the Bullet- This is yet another cool rock tune. It sounds to me like the song is about getting back together with someone that you know is wrong for you, but you go back because of the love you feel for that person. Sort of like that famous line "OUT OF THE FRYING PAN, INTO THE FIRE" only in this case it's "OUT OF THE COLD, BACK INTO THE LINE OF FIRE!" hehe It's a great song though. Fire To Burn- This song starts out to a slow groove but really smokes when it kicks in, and Sandi's voice is damn sexy on this song. It sounds like a song about Hearts that are Hungry for love. It's a really great rock tune, that's all I know. The Lead guitars on this song are really great, but what do ya expect from Tony Bruno man? the guy rocks. St. Christopher's Medal- This is a really dark, sort of moody ballad about searching through all of the dark negativity that ya see in modern society and trying to find something to believe or have faith in. I really love when Tony shows his emotional Bluesy style of guitar playing like in this song, the guy stirs emotions just by hitting certain notes, and I bet to him, the stuff is just OFF THE CUFF. I totally love the sound of 80's keyboard mixed with electric guitar and bluesy solos, it sounds amazing. It sounds like in the verses and a bit of the Chorus Tony plays the same melody as the keyboard on acoustic too,but it's hard to tell, sounds great anyway. Drop The Bomb- This song has a cool Bass Groove intro, although it's only like one note. it's just so in the pocket. The song really rocks too, it's not one of the best songs on the cd though. But hey even the songs that aren't as good are still great, so it makes for a great album. Overall on a scale of 1-10, I give this CD a perfect rating of 10 out of 10. This record is perfect for the Melodic rock fan who really digs different tempos, ranging from haunting keyboards, hook-filled riffs, harmonius leads, and sexy women's vocals. If you dig the first Danger Danger release or Early Bon Jovi definitely try and look for this cd on ebay or in your used cd shops. |
