PERSONS LISTED IN THE FAMILY TREE WHO HAD NO DESCENDANTS | |||||||||||||||||||
CHARLES TUNKS, third child of WILLIAM and SARAH, was born in 1802. As a teenager he did farm work for his brother-in-law, John Andrews, at Castlereagh. On 10th May 1820 he petitioned Governor Macquarie for a land grant and, whilst awaiting a reply to his petition, Charles left farming and he was reported in a Sydney newspaper of the time as having left the Colony three times on the brig “Campbell Macquarie”, probably as a crew member (?). The land grant was made on 1st November 1822 but no record has been found of Charles having taken up the land at Bargo nor of his activities elsewhere since that time. A family solicitor’s letter could suggest that Charles was declared missing sometime between 1822 and 1836 leaving his mother, Sarah, brother John and sister-in-law Phoebe as executors and beneficiaries of his estate. SARAH ANDREWS, first child and first daughter of ANN TUNKS and JOHN ANDREWS was born 1809 no other information is available. CHARLOTTE ANDREWS, third child and third daughter of ANN TUNKS and JOHN ANDREWS was born 1813 and died 1815. FRANCES (Fanny) ANDREWS, seventh child and fifth daughter of ANN TUNKS and JOHN ANDREWS was born 1823 no other information is available. JOHN TUNKS, third child and second son of JOHN TUNKS and ESTHER ARNDELL was born on 6th July 1820. He entered into partnership with Thomas Shaw as a cabinetmaker and undertaker which was dissolved in 1843. In 1844 he was licensee of his older brother William’s hotel, the “Curriers Arms” at the corner of Castlereagh and Bathurst Streets, Sydney. In the 1850s he was the licensee of the “Picton Arms” at the corner of Pitt and Campbell Streets, Sydney. John was a member of the Currency Cricket Club’s team and on New Year’s Day 1845 he scored the first individual century (112 not out) in the first grade competition of that period. No record has been found of a marriage or of his date of death. MARY ANN TUNKS, fifth child and third daughter of JOHN TUNKS and ESTHER ARNDELL was born in 1824 and died in 1824. EDWARD CHARLES TUNKS, sixth child and third son of JOHN TUNKS and ESTHER ARNDELL was born in 1825 and died, aged 54 in 1879. It is thought that he never married and lived with his parents at Norfolk House. ROBERT TUNKS, fourth child and third son of JOHN TUNKS and PHOEBE (nee TOMLINSON) MOBBS was born in 1836 and died in 1836. NOTE: if any family member has any research, theories or fact concerning the above 19th century family members or research, theories or fact concerning William Tunks before he sailed for Botany, please contact the TDAI Secretary. |
