Maharaji
ok, my friend sarah told me about this guy called maharahji with really intersting ideas about knowledge. i'm don't actually know enough about it to speak about it myself but i found some of his quotes that he gave me really interesting so i thought i'd put them up here.
what i speak about is not embedded in words. if it were, it would have no substance; it would just be ideas, thoughts and stories. one could hear it, comtemplate it, and then, as we do with most things, discard it and go on. what is diifferent is what i actually offer people...what are you looking for is inside of you, to help get it, i offer what i call knowledge-the know-how to be able to acess that feeling.
why are we really here? is it so we can rush, rush, rush everyday? that's what people do from the time they get up to the time they sleep. and they keep on doing it. they have no control over it. in the city you see so many people driving around, very frustrated. it makes you think, where is the world going to?
look at all the people in the world. we look at graveyards. and there are some graveyards where there are thousands of people buried. what have they done with their lives? what joy have they gained? they came and they lived thir lives. what is there left to show except for a headstone? that's it? is that our life, our destiny? if that's all this is about, then the meaning of life doesn't exist. there is nothing to life. it has no purpose. but that's not the way it is. there's a lot more to it, alot more there. and this is what knowledge can reveal to you. in your own heart.
most people believe there is a creator. i'm not saying there isn't one. but what is the basis for it? they think there is a creator but what is the basis of the belief? is it that everybody is like a flock of sheep? one sheep goes to one place and everybody else follows? do we really know for ourselves? most people have a concept of heaven. they think, "up there, there in heaven". where? in the blue skies there is this place with pearly gates. you knock at those gates and they open up and there is a guy sitting there like a traffic cop. and he makes sure you've got all the right qualifications to enter. then there is hell, again something we imagine. but have we seen heaven? or hell? have we seen god? do we know about god? but why does god exist? and why are we alive? they ask what is the purpose of life? why do we breathe? you can go inside the body, remove any organ and still live. there are people who even survive without a heart. their heart stops but they still live and after a few electrical charges it goes again. but there's one thing without which-even if the heart, lungs, kidneys and every other organ is functioning, everything falls apart...
fulfilment is not that far away. it is right here. always has and always will be. it is the true immortal monument. no time-nothing will ever desecrate that one moment of fufilment.
there's comes a point when we try to get in touch with the heart. we want to find out something about ourselves that is not a thought, texture or colour. it is not easy to put aside the mind even for a moment. but that is exactly what has to happen in a person's life. if they are to become simple enough to approch themselves. this is a human being, living existing-not something something that needs to be molded or folded. its abilities are astounding, human beings can appriciate like nothing else in the world, they just forget how to.
what are moments? have you seen a person take their last breath? then moments become extremely precious. then, there is not a moment to be lost. this incredible force inside of you that automatically allows you to breathe ahs suddenly gone. you're driving, you're sleeping, you're walking, you're laughing and all of a sudden something says "done". the body lies there and that which the vessel embodied in it has been taken.
acceptance no judgement...appriciate.
what does it mean to be alive? what does it mean to be breathing? what does it mean to be fulfilled? what does it mean to be? so much is said, but beyond the theories, the analysis, there is just you. and in you there is this breath. with each breath, something comes, something fulfills and something leaves. in your life, do you recognize a thirst? a thirst so innate, so simple, so inherently yours. a want to be whole that will be there until your very last breath. this is not something from your brain. the brain is powerful, it can take you to the moon and make promises to take you to the edge of the universe. it can try to contemplate what the dege of the universe is like. it can take you to the bottom of the oceans. but it has a limitation.
thanks sarah for taking the time to write these quotes out to me on that full sheet of paper
