Riot Grrrl-the way i see it
before i start i just want to say that i am speaking for myself from my own knowledge and experiences. i am not the voice of the riot grrrl community so keep that in mind.
i found out about the whole riot grrrl deal in grade 7, when i started listening to hole. i know hole are nowhere near to a riot grrrl band, but they were the way i came across it as they are so often tied in with the movement.

i view riotgrrrl as a new form of feminism. riot grrrls don't burn bras, they don't have to feel uncomfortable about
not wearing one either.

electric. involved. supportive. independant. headstrong. innovative. accepting. diy. networking. exciting. mouthy. centered. friendly. intelligent. artistic. creative. imaginative. eccentric. active. open. exposed. understanding. political. inspirational

this is part of a blueprint for
MY new feminism. call me a hypocrite-i don't live up to almost HALF the requirements. but i dream, i act, i will become. it's always a place to work towards being. it's a philosophical place and a state of being that i want to share with other people, most ideally through music. through lyrics, through chords, through shows, through communication, through sharing, though information, through knowledge.

call me young, uneducated, naieve, idealistic...at least i know what i want.

i posted something about  riotgrrrl as 'just a look'
"i think it's good when girls dress up to give the finger. like 'look at me i'm fitting your expectations perfectly. ie: i've been patronised my whole life and now i'm giving it back in the form of becoming who you have treated me like. you call me honey and sweetie all the time and now i'm living up to it by dressing the age that you treat me. but i think it's stupid when girls dress up like that just coz they see some girl at a silverchair concert doing it or whatever and they think it's so alternative and indie rock and a hot new look for spring...i can't stand it.
and anyway riot grrrl wasn't really fairies and glitter it started out being more like politics and stuff but it was totally distorted by the mainstream media and now all people see riot grrrl as is hello kitty lunch boxes and mary janes "
