Frankenstein 3

1939's "Son of Frankenstein" This was the last time Boris Karloff played the monster. It is rumored that the monster was not seen as frequently in this film, as Karloff had a hip injury that made moving around in the heavy monster suit quite painful and difficult. Bela Lugosi played Ygor in this film, (half shown to the left of the picture), some say this was his finest performance since Dracula.

Another shot from "Son of Frankenstein" Colin Clive as Dr. Frankenstein was replaced in this one by Basil Rathbone as the good Drs. son.

Frankenstein was remade by Hammer Studios in England and retitled "The Curse of Frankenstein" in 1956. The monster, shown here, was played by Christopher Lee, his co-star? Peter Cushing of course.

1953's "The Bride of Frankenstein" Directed by James Whale and starring , left to right, Colin Clive, Elsa Lanchester, Boris Karloff, Ernest Thesiger.

"Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" 1953. In the late 1940's and early 1950's, monsters had become figures more of fun than figures of fright. Studios capitalized on this trend with many entries with a comic twist, almost parodies of the earlier films. There is usually no middle road on these films, horror fans either love them or hate them
