A colt class is for young horses that haven’t been started, or horses with some time under saddle, but could be having difficulty grasping fundamentals. We feel that Colt starting is an excellent experience for the young horse, since during this time a foundation of communication, trust, and understanding between horse and rider can be seen…...the building blocks of partnership. |
No matter what your horse’s age, Groundwork will prove to be a valuable tool in establishing control, manners, respect, and the boundaries of your individual space.
Did you know that what your horse does (good or bad) on the ground, he will do from the saddle? Consequently, a great deal can be accomplished by beginning with groundwork. Ed’s ability to effectively communicate with both horse and rider is conducive to the confidence-building and improvement of your equine skills. |
Ed’s Horsemanship sessions are designed to help you achieve a higher level of communication with your horse, as well as increase your awareness and control in the placement of his feet. Basically, this will help you work toward a better partnership with your horse through precise, albeit simple maneuvers and exercises.
In order to achieve your aspirations, our goal is to help you learn the necessary skills to work with your horse from his side of the saddle. |

Ed’s One-On-One session is held after
dinner on the Saturday evening of
each clinic. This is a perfect opportunity
for Ed to work with each participant and their horse without interruption. There is no set time limit for this part of the clinic, since working through difficulties and seeing a change or improvement without shortcuts will take -- as long as it takes. |
Our Cow Working session also takes
place the Saturday evening of the Groundwork / Horsemanship clinic, and is entirely optional. If your horse has never been exposed to cattle, this is a great way for both of you to experience something different while in a controlled atmosphere. A number of riders have been surprised to learn that their horses have herd (heard) a 'cattle call'. |
