Good question! A flute circle is a group of people who get together to share and enjoy Native American flute music. You don't have to be a musician. You don't even have to play Native American flute. The only requirement is an interest in the music these lovely instruments produce. If you are new to the Native American Flute (NAF) and you are interested in learning how to play, there are people in our circle who are able and willing to help. We have all different levels of players and each person has his or her own perspective, style of playing, and techniques. Playing the NAF can be as simple or complex as you desire. Newcomers to the NAF can often play simple tunes the first couple of days they sit down to play. |
When do we meet? |
Turtle Island Flute Circle meets once each month on the second Sunday of the month. We occasionally reschedule meetings due to holidays. |

What do we do at meetings? |
Our meetings are an open forum for the appreciation of NAF music. As such, any number of activities may take place when we meet. Some of them are: - Discussions about new NAF music - Sharing information about upcoming performances of others - Getting the word out about any activities/lectures/preformances we have planned - Open microphone flute playing (get the chance to try your flute with effects!) - Flute origin stories - Educational videos - Flute construction talks - Trip planning / trips to see NAF performances - Spiritual aspects of the NAF - Ensemble playing with drums, rattles, and other instruments - Exchanging of flute playing techniques - Lessons for beginner and intermediate level flute players - Pot luck supper and open jam session - Native American Flute community news - Encouraging each other on our flute paths - Sharing stories about our experiences playing and sharing NAF music - Discussions on recording techniques |
