February 2006 / So glad Valentine's is over. It's not fun when you're alone and everywhere you turn, all you see is love, love, love. Well, at least that's how I feel. Why can't there be a day to celebrate people who are done with love? It's unfortunate that this world is designed for couples and not for single folks like myself. Most social functions, travels, benefits are geared toward couples. You go into a restaurant or a movie theater by yourself, you feel a bit odd. Honestly, can I live by myself or should I make an effort (at 42) to find a companion? I used to have this image of my perfect man. Actually, he changes with the times. (I wanted someone who could cook gourmet food. Someone who had long hair, but no tattoos. Someone who could crack a dirty joke as well as reciting poetry.) His race changes too. Now that I've been watching a lot of Japanese movies lately, I like him to be Japanese. But by some miracle, he'll speak Vietnamese as well! Oh, and he'll have to be good with fixing cars. I hate having car troubles and the mechanics are like robbers. He doesn't have to be handsome, but I like him to have a sweet smile. And his eyes, I like them to be wise, sad, but mischievous too. Ahh... such a nice fantasy...
What's with all the violence because of a cartoon! That's to remind us how powerful perception is. The Muslims don't see the cartoon of their Prophet with his head gear in the image of a bomb as freedom of expression. Even the "average" Muslims are outraged because first of all, you just do not draw or depict Muhammad directly, (no idol worship in any shape or form), and secondly, to equate him with the terrorists, well... Do not offend the faith of 1 BILLION people! I don't know. Maybe in the future, it's not wars between nations. Instead, it's wars between religions. What can God do when His children war with one another in His name? More natural disasters?
