April 2006 /    Four months since I saw Brokeback Mountain with my gay friends at the small theater across from South Coast Plaza.  That night was the first day of showing.  It was freezing, yet people lined up to see the tiny movie.  And with a largely gay audience, the viewing experience was so fun.  We let out our collective sighs & screams when we saw the nude body (slightly out of focus) of one of the actors, I don't remember which.  The movie was so much more to gay people than just entertainment.  When Director Lee accepted his Oscar, his speech almost made me cry.  Thank you, Mr. Lee and all the lovely actors who braved this kind of work.  It's all a gamble, and in Brokeback's case, the gamble paid off.  I like Crash, but for artistic reasons alone, I would have loved to see Brokeback win Best Picture.

So, dear reader, rent it, buy it today.

And we can all yearn once more for our lost loves...
