V for Vendetta (2006) / Not quite works as a popcorn movie and too... serious to be taken seriously. It's about a familiar world with familiar problems to ours, set in a near future where everyone and everything are under total control by a madman. Natalie Portman looks gorgeous with or without hair. She cries and suffers beautifully. But, the movie seems distant, like the mask the hero/antihero named V wears. Not recommended, unless you love Natalie. Thank You for Smoking (2006) / A good satire with biting dialogues. The pace is fast enough. You hate to love / love to hate the main character, played by Aaron Eckhart, a spin master that works for the big bad tobacco company. Good for group viewing. Especially for smokers. |

RENT THIS !!! The Keys to the House (Le Chiavi Di Casa) (2004, Italian) Any movie with Charlotte Rampling in it is bound to be good. In this study of father-and-son relationship, Kim Rossi Stuart plays a man with guilt for abandoning his son, amazingly portrayed by Andrea Rossi, and tries to make up for it. It's heartbreaking. And lovely to watch. |
