WGAL-TV Channel 8 NBC
Lancaster's WGAL is probably the area's most proffesional (big city like) station. WGAL was the first station and still the most watched. The news is good with experienced anchors and neat set with a view of the newsroom. WGAL has been using this set since Summer '95. Their morning newcast with TWO anchors, and they are the only area with a doppler radar. WGAL also features a local talk show, "12:30 Live" and the area's only weekend morning news. WGAL was the only station that operated 24 hours a few years ago.

WLYH-TV Channel 15 UPN / WHP-TV Channel 21 CBS
WLYH and WHP are now under one roof due to a LMA which allows Clear Channel owned WHP to control Gateway owned WLYH. Together, they call their news the "Eyewitness News Network". Lancaster/Lebanon's WLYH is a UPN station which switched from CBS on December 18, 1995. Central PA used to have two CBS affiliates, WLYH for Lancaster and Lebanon and WHP for Harrisburg and York. WLYH used to produce it's own news program, "Action News" which only aired at 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM (The 11:00 PM news was dropped long before the 6:00 PM). News has returned to WLYH with "Eyewitness News at 10" WLYH still goes off the air around 1:30-2:00 AM daily and still broadcasts in mono. WHP was competing directly with WGAL and WHTM when they had morning, noon and a 5:00 PM newscast. Since then, they let go about half of their staff and news is now limited to 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM. What a shame, they were really showing potential! Unlike WGAL and WHTM, talent at WLYH/WHP seems to come and go. WHP has a really annoying white "WHP" bug that covers the CBS "eye" transparent bug when it comes up. There's no reason for that! WHP now operates 24 hours a day, but that was not the case only a few years ago.

WHTM-TV Channel 27 ABC
WHTM has come along way since 1992! Back then WHTM used to broadcast and mono and sign off at 12:30 AM! News was limited to 6:30 AM, 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM. However, the morning news has been expanded to 5:30 AM, evening news to 5:00 PM and a noon newscast has also been added. They are no longer operating under the name of "WHTM NewsCenter," they have reverted to the name which they were previously known as, "ABC27 News." They also built a new set in June of 1999 as part of their reinvention, along with a new logo and graphics, which are a bit cheesy - too big and bold.

WITF-TV Channel 33 PBS
WITF is Central Pennsylvania's PBS affiliate. I have told that WITF has budget lower than that of most other PBS stations. Not a whole a lot of local production here.

WPMT-TV Channel 43 FOX
York's "Fox 43" is one of the few Tribune owned stations not part of the WB network. They too have come a long way since '92 when they used to sign off at 1:00 AM daily and broadcast in mono.
This used to be WSBA-TV and was a CBS affiliate in York up until about 1983. The station changed call letters to WPMT and eventually became a FOX affiliate. It was an independent for the short time before FOX was born.
"FOX 43" didn't get local news until '94 when they debuted the 30-minute long, fast-paced "Fox 43 News At 10". "Fox 43 News At 10" expanded to a full hour in '97. Oh yeah, they now operate 24 hours a day in stereo.

WGCB-TV Channel 49 Rel./Shopping
Red Lion's WGCB is a 24 hour religious/shopping station. Daytime programming features "700 Club" and "Benny Hinn" with shopping from the "Shop At Home" network overnight. I think WGCB should pick up PAX-TV, it would do pretty well up there.
